The Boy with S-W-A-G

This, as you can see is just a "let's spaz GD" post. Gosh, this boy just pulled off any quirky/ outrageous styles. Need I say say how drool-worthy he looked in that Pinkish purple hair?? I don't know how I miss this period of time when he had that hair. Guess it was during that time I wasn't following any BB news for a while. (Love Song promotion period) He's always got that fierce look in his eyes that you go, "Woah there, Bad Boy!" Doesn't seem like a very approachable guy. But when he just turn his lips upwards and reveal his oh-so-bright smile, you will begin to wonder if there were in actuality, two different individuals.

Talking about Bad Boy, I got hooked real bad on this song. The magic didn't work on the first time. I was rather distracted by the crazy angst and Holy-Smokes- fashion going on in Fantastic Baby music video.

In the end, it took me around two weeks to cool off Fantastic baby and started giving other songs in the album a try.
So now Bad Boy and Ain't no fun have officially become my morning work out songs, esp Ain't no fun, since it has such a catchy tune. (Heck! All ma boy's songs are hella catchy! Hats off to you, Kwon Ji Yong!)

So, look! I found a gif that has the entire verse of GD's rap in Ain't no fun~!

Did I mention I love the way he moved when he rapped that part with Ri's next to him? Man, he's got more Swagger than Mike Jagger!

Of course, I shall end this post with yet another wonderful work of ma boy in BB's ALIVE japanese album~In his words," Hey ma baby, I'm your daddy!"

Outerwear Madness~!

I'm no fashionista, I admit that. But once in a while, I'd like to try out new fashion styles that I don't usually dig. It's not so hard to get an idea on what's hot and in style currently and I often get my inspirations from Korean dramas (obviously, given that I'm such a big fan of Korean fashion. In fact, I sometimes pay more attention to the girls than the guys because of what they wear ;p), window-shopping/web-shopping in Forever21/ H&M (my favourite stores in the US because of the affordable prices) and fashion websites. (fashionising.com is my go-to site for yearly fashion updates!)

After some serious 'price' considerations and some try-outs (battling out in the fitting room), I have made my decision. It has been decided that I would do some outwear-lovin this year~

According to the professionals, it seems that Tuxexo-jackets are highly popular now~ The nicest thing about owning a tuxexo-jacket (or blazer) is that you could go awesome-looking in two ways~ In other words, you can go Formal-Awesome or Casual-Awesome!

If you decided to look professional like a SCW ( Super Career Woman), you can put on a dress or a nice silk top underneath that blazer and you're good to go take down the world~!
However, if you feel like being a cool chic like those Korean girls do on TV, you can always have a colorful tank top or a T-shirt underneath and voila~! You'll be rocking the world no less than the SCW~!

Another style I'm absolutely digging right now is long-sleeves shirt and knitted sweater on the outside~ It's good for any days of the week and you could even wear a nice floral dress underneath instead of a shirt. My aim is to get a nice peter-pan collar dress for the complete look!

And yes we move on to my next love, peter-pan collar dress/top~!

Gotta have one of these~!

Man, those are so cute but they are so darn hard to find! Don't get me wrong, it's everywhere but to get the right one that looks good on you is the hard part. I haven't succeeded in finding one for myself, at least not for now.

Can't be cuter than this! Where can I get one?!

Of course, this year you can never go wrong with polka dots! If you haven't noticed already,
polka dots are causing a frenzy everywhere. It's on dresses, skirts, shoes, bags etc etc~! I personally got a nice 1960s looking full shirt because I want to be like those women in the old American musicals where they swing and sway to the music, tossing their full skirts around like Oh-So-Beautifully!

I'm too lazy to take a photo of my skirt~so this will do..

So the above are all my current list of favourite things (fashion-wise)~ I was happy that I managed to get a couple of the things that I wanted during my trip to SF and also from yesterday's splurging~ It's a good thing that DeKalb doesn't have a mall (specifically Forever21 or H&M) coz I know darn well that I'm going to go broke if they are within my proximity!

Some pictures of my precious finds~

A chiffon shirt~short in front, long at the back~it feels good on the skin~soft and silky

A green knit sweater~ Perfect with my new top~

A nice blue blazer to brighten up my day~

A black one for a SCW day!

A girl needs her leather jacket~

Now all I need is the right weather to wear them~ :D

A light bulb moment

"Our modern world does a wonderful job of telling us that if we aren't doing it all we are doing nothing. It's a lot like a roaring lion taunting us and reminding us tat when we do things well there will always be someone out there who does it better, then blogs about it, then writes a book about it that turns into a Hollywood blockbuster. Do you ever feel like that?"

Makes you think, doesn't it? Cause it sure make me think for a while!

Whatever we want in life, we are constantly racing after it. Some got there faster, some of us are still making our way to it, some are just lost in the middle of everything before getting there.

It's like reaching for the highest star in the sky.

So whatever it is, we will always feel we didn't do enough, didn't get enough, didn't wish enough...

Human nature, that's what it is...

I know I'm still finding my way around, hoping I'm not lost...at least not for now.

Merry Cheesy Christmas! Part 2

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

I'm finally back in good old corn town and surprisingly, there is no snow in sight! The weather is warmer than expected and it's like I've never left San Francisco at all. Oh well, what will come will come eventually. Moving on...

This is officially my first post for 2012 and it's just a continuation from
the previous post. I have decided long time ago to never leave things undone. That means anything that says part 1 must have at least a part 2.

So here goes...

I had a great Christmas dinner although there was so much drama going on the whole time I was there. Since the drama isn't the main focus of this post, I shall not go there.

This year, I was lucky to have celebrated Thanksgiving with an American family and got to experience the true American traditions and savoured traditional dishes in an American country home. Christmas, like Thanksgiving, is one of the biggest holidays in America and it is unquestionably a great idea to celebrate it with an American family since that would give me an opportunity to be personally involved in preparing wondrous array of food.

So instead of writing about what I ate that day, I will just let the pictures do the talking.

One of my favourite appetizers on Christmas day! Cheese spread with taco seasoning mix sandwiched between french bread and cucumber with parsley on top.

Green bean casserole~ A holiday dish for Thanksgiving too!

~~Baked sweet potatoes with marshmallows ~~

Shredded turkey, shrimp and so on.

~~My splendid Christmas dinner plate~~

~All smiles ~

We had so much food that lasted us for another few more days. The rest of the day was followed by Christmas presents unwrapping moment, eating, resting, eating, watching football & NBA on tv, more eating and sleeping.

All in all, it was a lazy day. I sorta miss the 'visiting' part of Christmas in Malaysia. I used to visit my relatives and friends who celebrate Christmas and it's kinda sad that I haven't been doing that for more than 5-6 years now due to me being away from home all these while.

Sadder still, I will be missing another holiday- Chinese New Year, which is my favourite holidays of all times. There will be another year before I can celebrate CNY again with my dear family and friends...I could only wait longingly for the time to pass.....

Merry Cheesy Christmas! Part 1

HOHOHO!

Merry Christmas to everyone! It's my second year celebrating Christmas in the United States. Last year I spent my Christmas with my best friends in New York City and it was a memorable experience especially we were almost trapped in New York after the city was buried under 19 inches of snow!!!

I guess Santa really gave us our wish for wanting to have a white Christmas by dumping that much of snow on us!

This year, however, is a sunny, no-snow Christmas as I'm spending my Christmas with a friend of mine at Burlingame near San Francisco. It's still chilly without the sno
w and I get to experience the process of putting up a Christmas tree, decorating it, go Christmas shopping, preparing Christmas dinner, baking Christmas Cookies and so on.

Home-made frosting after we color-dyed it

Home-made Christmas Cookies~

We made few different types of dipping too and one of them is Artichoke dipping~ If you are wondering what's an artichoke like I did, well it's some kind of scaly-looking green vegetable that look like this....

Making Artichoke dip ~ step 1

Making Artichoke dip ~step 2~add lots of mayonnaise! Well, actually just one cup.

Step 3~ put a cup of Parmesan cheese and Mozzarella Cheese each and mix them all together.

Step 4~ Sprinkle some Parsley over it and bon apetite~

Another thing we made is the taco dipping that is with taco mix, sour cream, cream cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, black olives and tons of Mexican cheese!

So it's no less fun than last year as I'm having my first American-at-home Christmas celebration.(as how it should be celebrated) The best part is I get to learn all these American recipes so I could share it with my family back home in Malaysia.

We are not even done with our Christmas dinner preparation yet~ More to come!

Tighten Up

There are only a number of songs that could get me hooked on the second the music starts playing.

Recently, there aren't a lot of songs that have the magic effect that get my heart beating faster every time I listen to it. But just two days ago, I came upon The Black Key's "Tighten up" and it has never stop playing in my head ever since.

The strumming of the guitar, the cheery whistling, the pulsating beat of the drum, the soulful voice all make up what I called THE SONG that get you addicted like a cup of coffee.

Of course, this is not a new song. It's from The Black Key's Brothers album and just few days ago they have released their latest album " El Camino " which just so happen to be the name of a street just close by the place I'm staying at.

All I can say is the songs are good stuff.

Time --------------------------------------------

You'd probably guessed correctly that my title says Timeline. Yes, yesterday Facebook has officially rolled out the Facebook Timeline feature.

It's a cool addition but to a not so tech-savvy person like me, this new feature can be kind of mind-boggling.

Although I like the fact that I can see every single thing I have done on Facebook, sometimes this feature raises more questions rather than letting you quietly reliving your memories, for instance:

- status from 9th of June 2008 at exactly 19.59 [ Jocelyn Sim is wondering why she did it?]

Did what? For the life of me, I just can't seem to remember that part and Facebook isn't helping me in any way. In fact, it just added another question to bug me for the rest of the day.

However, there is one thing that interests me and that is how this new profile has become a means of storytelling, and you as the storyteller. And the story is of course none other than your LIFE.

I can choose to highlight a specific life event in a specific year, month and day and write a short note about it. It's almost like a digital photo album that I choose to share with my friends. Indirectly, it means I don't have to put a bunch of photos up on Facebook to tell what's been happening in my life but to choose only ONE unique photo to sum up that life event.

A highlighted event in my life.

All I can say is...I like that.

I'm not a person who keeps a journal or a diary or anything that requires me to note down the important and trivial events in my life. The Closest thing I have to that is my Facebook. The next closest thing would be this blog but hey, it's been decided long ago that I'm not a very frequent blogger.
Facebook, however, kept all the trash and jewels of my life.

On top of it all, the visual or rather the aesthetic of this new profile page is quite impressive. It actually IS a Timeline. The idea of a cover works for me because a book, which contains a story, has a cover. So there is no reason why there shouldn't be a cover for my life story. Whoever came up with this idea is ingenious.
